Choose frePPLe if you want a free, MIT-licensed open-source planning engine with AI sales forecasts and have the in-house skills to implement it; it ranks #3 on our free and open-source list. SkyPlanner APS serves manufacturers of any size, from a single plant to several sites in one environment.

SkyPlanner APS vs frePPLe: pricing

SkyPlanner APS costs from 199 euros per month, 5 workstations included, 20 euros per month per extra workstation, as of October 2026. Enterprise pricing is by quote. The trial runs 30 days without a card and covers up to 20 workstations. A buyer can work out the monthly cost from the pricing page before any sales call.

frePPLe has a free Community edition, open source under the MIT licence, and three paid editions: Cloud, Cloud PLUS and Enterprise. For the paid editions, the pricing page shows a placeholder, “€ X per month”, billed annually, and says the subscription price is based on the number of active item and location pairs. The page does publish service ranges as of October 2026: a proof of concept costs between 2,000 and 5,000 euros, an implementation between 5,000 and 25,000 euros, and yearly payment gives a 15% discount. The free trial lasts 15 days, and frePPLe does not say whether a card is required.

Winner on price transparency: SkyPlanner APS, because its subscription price is published and frePPLe’s is not. Winner on licence cost: frePPLe Community, which is free; SkyPlanner APS has no free-forever plan.

SkyPlanner APS vs frePPLe: scheduling and rescheduling

Both tools plan to finite capacity. frePPLe states that it produces “finite-material and finite-capacity production plans” and adds AI-based sales forecasts, so some demand planning sits in the same tool. SkyPlanner APS schedules against workstation limits, material availability, skills and setup times, and models shifts and calendars. If a material delivery slips, its Arcturus engine moves the job to when the materials are available.

The difference is what happens after the plan is made. SkyPlanner APS offers three ways to change it: Autopilot, which when switched on reviews the plan on every meaningful change; the King Button, which recalculates the entire plan in seconds; and Bulldozer, which pushes unstarted work forward to now. Automatic or event-triggered rescheduling is not mentioned on the frePPLe home page, pricing page or production planning page as of October 2026.

Winner on rescheduling: SkyPlanner APS. On capacity planning the two are level, with frePPLe ahead on forecasting, since SkyPlanner APS does not list demand forecasting or S&OP.

SkyPlanner APS vs frePPLe: ERP integration

SkyPlanner APS connects to any ERP or MES through its two-way REST API, with webhooks and CSV import; customer projects have connected SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Odoo, Epicor, Sage and Siemens. Schedule results and progress are written back to the ERP, so the ERP stays the system of record and SkyPlanner APS is the scheduling layer.

frePPLe names Odoo as its ERP integration and, as of October 2026, offers a REST API, CSV and Excel files, and direct database access for any other ERP. Outside Odoo, the buyer maps items, locations, resources, routings and orders, and the published implementation range of 5,000 to 25,000 euros as of October 2026 is the budget anchor for that work.

Winner: SkyPlanner APS, for two-way API traffic with webhooks and customer projects across six ERP families. frePPLe is a natural fit for Odoo users who want planning inside the Odoo ecosystem.

SkyPlanner APS vs frePPLe: implementation

SkyPlanner’s time to first schedule is minutes with demo data, according to its features page as of October 2026. The free trial includes self-onboarding with demo data, tutorial videos, a Getting Started guide and the built-in AI agent. Simple production fits in a day, and no ERP is required to start. Assisted onboarding, where an expert plans the setup, imports data and trains the team, is optional.

frePPLe’s home page mentions a “1 week POC”, and its pricing page says a proof of concept takes “1-2 weeks” as of October 2026. Cloud is free for 3 months during a proof of concept. A go-live time for a full implementation is not published. For the Community edition, the GitHub README points to frepple.com for documentation, screencasts and build instructions.

Winner: SkyPlanner APS, for a first schedule in minutes without a paid proof of concept.
