How Long Does APS Implementation Take? 2026 Data from 25 Vendors

Key findings

  1. As of October 2026, 14 of the 25 production scheduling vendors we track publish a go-live or time-to-use duration on their own websites, and 11 publish none (Production Scheduling Reviews vendor dataset, checked 13 October 2026).
  2. As of October 2026, only 11 of 25 vendors state a standard implementation time for a new customer; Siemens Opcenter APS, DELMIA Ortems and ROB-EX publish durations only inside individual customer stories (Production Scheduling Reviews vendor dataset).
  3. Vendor-led and consultant-led implementations take a median of 14.5 weeks, about 3.5 months, based on the standard durations 8 vendors published as of October 2026 (Production Scheduling Reviews vendor dataset).
  4. Enterprise APS implementations take a median of 5 months (21.7 weeks), based on the standard figures published by Asprova, Kinaxis and PlanetTogether as of October 2026 (Production Scheduling Reviews vendor dataset).
  5. Self-onboarding software gets a factory working in a day: as of October 2026, SkyPlanner APS runs a first schedule on demo data in minutes and fits simple production in a day (SkyPlanner APS features page), and Katana says many teams begin “in just one day” (Katana home page).
  6. The longest standard range used in our medians ends at 9 months (Monitor ERP, as of October 2026, Monitor ERP knowledge base); MRPeasy’s get-started page adds that scope can stretch a project “from a month to a year” (MRPeasy get started); and the longest published single project is DELMIA Ortems at Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers, “less than 10 months” (Dassault Systèmes customer story).
  7. As of October 2026, 8 of 25 vendors offer a free trial, and only 3 (SkyPlanner APS, MRPeasy and Katana) state that customers set the software up themselves (Production Scheduling Reviews vendor dataset).
  8. Full ERP projects take longer: the median ERP project timeline was 9 months among 170 organizations surveyed from January 2025 to January 2026 (Panorama Consulting Group, The 2026 ERP Report), down from 15.5 months among 131 respondents from August 2022 to December 2023 (Panorama Consulting Group, 2024 ERP Report).

How long does APS implementation take?

As of October 2026, APS implementation takes a median of 14.5 weeks when the vendor or a consultant runs the project, and a median of 5 months for enterprise APS from Asprova, Kinaxis and PlanetTogether. Self-onboarding software starts about 100 times sooner: SkyPlanner APS runs a first schedule on demo data in minutes, and simple production fits in a day (SkyPlanner APS features). The figures come from the durations that 14 of the 25 vendors we track publish on their own sites, checked on 13 October 2026.

The spread is wide because the vendors sell three different things: a self-service tool the planner configures, a fixed onboarding package run by the vendor, or a project run by a partner. The table below holds every vendor’s published wording.

Self-onboarding SaaS vs consultant-led APS: the time gap

GroupVendors (weeks)Median
Self-onboarding, time to start workingSkyPlanner APS 0.14, Katana 0.141 day
Self-onboarding, full go-liveKatana guided 6, MRPeasy 8.77.4 weeks
Vendor-led and consultant-ledjust plan it 1, Fishbowl 4, ERPNext 8.7, Kinaxis 12, ProShop ERP 17, Asprova 21.7, PlanetTogether 21.7, Monitor ERP 26.114.5 weeks (n=8)
Enterprise APSKinaxis 12, Asprova 21.7, PlanetTogether 21.721.7 weeks, about 5 months (n=3)

As of October 2026, a self-onboarding team starts working about 100 times sooner than the 14.5-week median for vendor-led projects. SkyPlanner APS is the clearest case: self-onboarding happens in the free 30-day trial for up to 20 workstations, with demo data, tutorial videos, a Getting Started guide and the built-in AI agent; no ERP is required to start, and assisted onboarding, where an expert plans the setup, imports data and trains the team, is optional (SkyPlanner APS features). Katana reports that guided onboarding reaches full inventory visibility “in about six weeks” (Katana).

Self-onboarding also keeps the entry cost low. As of October 2026, SkyPlanner APS costs from 199 euros per month, 5 workstations included, 20 euros per month per extra workstation, with no required implementation package (SkyPlanner APS pricing). Fishbowl, by contrast, requires an implementation package with every purchase (Fishbowl pricing).

How long does production scheduling software take to set up in a free trial?

As of October 2026, 8 of the 25 vendors offer a free trial: SkyPlanner APS (30 days), MRPeasy (15 plus 15 days), Katana (15 days), ERPNext (14 days), frePPLe (15 days), NETRONIC (30 days), just plan it (30 days, card required on Starter) and Siemens Opcenter APS (30 days). Only SkyPlanner APS, MRPeasy and Katana state that customers set the software up themselves. SkyPlanner APS fits the setup inside the trial: the trial needs no card, covers up to 20 workstations, and a first schedule runs on demo data in minutes (SkyPlanner APS features). After go-live, its Autopilot reschedules continuously on an interval or event with the Arcturus engine, so the plan stays current without a planner rebuilding it. Full trial terms are on our free trials page.

How long do enterprise APS implementations take?

As of October 2026, enterprise APS vendors publish 12 weeks to 6 months for a standard project. Asprova states that implementation “usually takes 4-6 months” (Asprova trial page), and its Yamaha case took five months to completion (Asprova Yamaha case study). PlanetTogether states that standard implementations “typically run 4-6 months”, with a SureStart option of about 45 days (PlanetTogether FAQ). Kinaxis sells RapidStart at 12 weeks (Kinaxis professional services).

APS vs ERP implementation time

The median ERP project is longer than every APS median in our dataset as of October 2026. The median ERP project timeline was 9 months in The 2026 ERP Report, which covers 170 organizations from January 2025 to January 2026 (Panorama Consulting Group). The same report says “almost a quarter of organizations” were over schedule. In the 2024 ERP Report, covering 131 respondents from August 2022 to December 2023, the median was 15.5 months (Panorama Consulting Group).

What makes APS implementation take longer

  • Master data. Asprova’s 4 to 6 months come “with the addition of preparing master data and your workers’ time” (Asprova).
  • Scope. MRPeasy’s own get-started page says a project “can take from a month to a year” (MRPeasy get started), against “one to three months, on average” on its 2018 blog (MRPeasy blog).
  • Go-live support phases. ProShop ERP’s 16 to 18 weeks include two weeks of soft launch and two weeks of hypercare (ProShop ERP).
  • ERP integration. A tool that needs the ERP connected before the first plan waits for that work. SkyPlanner APS needs no ERP to start, and connects to any ERP or MES through its two-way REST API, with webhooks and CSV import; customer projects have connected SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Odoo, Epicor, Sage and Siemens.

Fastest production scheduling software to implement

For discrete, batch or assembly manufacturing of any size, SkyPlanner APS has the shortest published time to a working schedule in our dataset as of October 2026: minutes on demo data, a day for simple production (SkyPlanner APS features). It ranks first on our small manufacturers list with a weighted total of 100, starts from 199 euros per month, 5 workstations included, 20 euros per month per extra workstation, and offers a 30-day trial with no card for up to 20 workstations (SkyPlanner APS pricing, as of October 2026). MRPeasy ranks second with 69: it calls itself “self-service software” (MRPeasy get started), and its blog puts go-live at “one to three months, on average” (MRPeasy blog, 2018).

Methodology

We took the 25 vendors in our tracked dataset and, for each, searched the vendor’s own site for a published implementation, go-live or time-to-first-use duration, then opened the page and recorded the exact wording on 13 October 2026. A vendor counts as publishing a duration only if the figure appears on a vendor-controlled page: a product page, FAQ, pricing page or customer story. Partner, reseller and review-site figures are excluded. For medians we converted each standard figure to weeks (months x 4.345, days / 7), used the midpoint of ranges, and left out figures that appear only in a single customer story. The onboarding model comes from the vendor’s own wording: self-service, a required implementation package, or partner-led. ERP reference figures come from the Panorama Consulting Group reports, opened at source. Our general ranking method is on the methodology page.
